I am unable to play AVI files larger than 2GB Size?
Solution
Such a problem is related to limitations of the Video-for-Windows system. the 2GB file size limit is hard wired into some of the code for the Microsoft Video for Windows.
This phenomenon is commonly found with Video files (larger than 2GB) encoded using VirtualDUB. VirtualDub, by default, automatically switches to OpenDML indexing when you cross the 2GB limit. As of now none of the standalone, HDD-based, Media Centers support OpenDML encoded Video files.
To confirm that your AVI file is encoded using the OpenDML standard, run it via
GSPOT
appliance. Here's a screenshot:
As of now, there is no known solution to this phenomenon. We strongly recommend either splitting your AVI files into multiple files or compressing them to DivX, XviD, MPEG formats and lower file size.
