How do I upgrade the firmware for my Mvix Ultio?
Solution

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how upgrade the firmware on your Mvix Ultio.  PLEASE DO NOT USE THE ULTIO FIRMWARE ON THE ULTIO PRO.  THIS WILL CAUSE ISSUES AND REQUIRE AN RMA.

Required Software: Ultio Firmware

Purpose: To show how to upgrade the firmware on your Mvix Ultio.

Download Firmware:

  1. Download the latest firmware from the MvixUSA Support Site.
  2. Save the firmware zip file to your computer.
  3. Unzip the zip file using WinZip, WinRar, or Vista's built in zip decrompession tool (Right click file, and click extract).
  4. You will now have a firmeware file named install.img.
  5. Place the install.bin file on a external USB Drive/Thumbdrive (DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE FIRMWARE FROM THE INTERNAL HARDDRIVE). This should be the ONLY file on the drive, else problems can occur with the firmware upgrade.

Upgrade Process:

*NOTE:  If you have the Samba and/or Bit Torrent modules installed, currently you will need to unplug the unit post firmware flash, and then turn it back on a few minutes later for the modules to start.

*NOTE:  For firmware version 1.3 and newer please copy all of the contents located in the zip file to your USB drive.  This includes the Mvix image itself.

  1. Navigate to the Setup entry on the main menu, and press enter. (DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE FIRMWARE FROM THE INTERNAL HARDDRIVE, USE ONLY A USB THUMBDRIVE OR EXTERNAL DRIVE)

  2. Navigate to the System entry on the Setup menu, and press enter.

  3. Navigate to the System Update entry in the System menu, and press enter.

  4. You will nowbe presented with an Update or Cancel option. Select Update and press enter.

  5. You will now see the unit shut down it's services, reboot, and flash the firmware. DO NOT POWER CYCLE THE MVIXBOX UNTIL THE UPGRADE IS COMPLETE!

  6. You will not be asked to select your language of choice.

  7. Finally you will need to select either DHCP or Manual IP addressing.

  8. The Firmware upgrade is now complete.
