This guide provides step-by-step instructions on setting up and installing the Mvix Nubbin Wireless-N Adapter on MAC OS-X
Required Software: The Mvix Nubbin 802.11N Adapter is based on the Ralink chipset. Click on the Operating System Icon to download the relevant drivers:
Purpose: Install the Mvix Nubbin Driver + Utility package and configure it on Mac OSX. Setting up your Mvix Nubbin in OS X 10.5.x:
- Download the dmg package to your Mac, and run the dmg package.
- You will see three folders, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, and you will use which ever corresponds to your base version of OS X. For this example I am running 10.5.7 and will use 10.5.
- Click on the 10.5 folder, and you will see both and installer package, and a un-installer package.
- Open the installer and you will see the Welcome Screen. Click on Continue.
- The amount of space the installer will take up is listed, click on Install.
- The installer will ask for your password, enter your password and click OK.
- The install will require a reboot, you will see this notice. If the reboot is fine, click Continue Installation.
- Once the install concludes you will see this screen with the green check mark. Click on restart.
- After the reboot, log in to your machine, and plug in the Mvix Nubbin.
- The next screen is the RaLink USB Wireless utility which will show all of the Access Points within reach. Select your access point, and click on Add Profile.
- The following screen shows the settings for the adapter, keep these as they are and click on Authentication & Security.
- Select your Authentication Type, Encryption Type, and enter your WPA Pre-Shared Key if using WPA. Once you are done click on OK.
- In this following screen you will see your Access Point. Select your access point, and click on Activate. This will connect you to your Access Point. You will see the icon to the left of the profile name change from Red to Green.
- Now you will need to go to System Preferences, and Click on Network. You will notice your new Adapter is not listed. In these pictures I have disabled the built in wireless Airport.
- Click on the plus button in the lower part of the window. Now select the Interface USB Ethernet (en2), and name the interface. Then click on create.
- Your interface will now be listed. It may at first show Unknown State, click Apply, and give it a minute for it to get a DHCP address from the Access Point.
- Once the DHCP address is received, on the left your Mvix Nubbin will show as connected.
- Click on the Lock Icon to Lock these settings, so they are not accidently changed.
- If you open a Terminal and type ifconfig en2 and press enter, you should see your IP address.
- You now have setup your Mvix Nubbin. Any changes in relation to the Access Point, Encryption, Passphrases, will need to be made in the RaLink USB Wireless Utility. This can be found in your application folder.
At this point we are done. In future reboots/logins, you will see the USB Wireless utility.
