How do I Setup Mvix MX-760HD and MX-780HD to stream MEDIA from my INFRANT READYNAS NV?
Solution

This guide provides a step-by-step instructions on setting up network streaming between a Network-attached Storage (NAS) and Mvix MX-760HD/MX-780HD MEDIA Center.

Here we use INFRANT's READYNAS NV+ as to setup our Mvix- NAS setup. ReadyNAS NV+ is a feature-packed network-attached storage device, with SMB/CIFS support for legacy Windows systems and an excellent network reliability.

PREPARATION:

  1. Configure your ROUTER or SWITCH to assign a STATIC IP address to your ReadyNAS NV+ (hereby referred to as "NASBOX";). Kindly refer to your Router's manual on how to accomplish this task. Also refer to your NASBOX's users manual for instructions on "How to fetch a static IP from your Router"
  2. Configure the NASBOX to be in USER MODE, such that each USER can be provided explicit access to individual folders (or SHARES).

SETUP

  1. Login to the FRONTVIEW panel of NASBOX via your admin id / pw.

  2. Ensure that your NASBOX is able to "fetch"; the correct IP Address, Gateway and DNS addresses from your router.
  3. From the left (navigation) toobar, click on SHARES. Assuming you have setup your SHARES (or FOLDERS) correctly, you will see the list of SHARES on your RAID Volumes (refer below)

  4. Assuming you will like to BACKUP and STORE all your MEDIA files under SHARE called 'MYMEDIA'. We will now configure the MYMEDIA share to be wirelessly accessed by the Mvix MX-760HD/MX-780HD.
(Note: Infrant creates a lower-case 'media' share by default. Use of both lower and upper-case names are not allowed, so either delete the lower-case 'media' and create a new one called 'MEDIA' or create one with a different name, such as 'MYMEDIA').
  5. Click on the icon under CIFS column for the MYMEDIA share.

  6. Under the CIFS (Win/MAC) settings, select "ALLOW GUEST ACCESS" to provide Mvix MX-760HD/MX-780HD access to this SHARE. (refer above)
  7. Scroll down to ADVANCED CIFS PERMISSIONS.
    1. Select "AUTOMATICALLY SET PERMISSIONS ON NEW FILES AND FOLDERS"
    2. Provide "READ/WRITE" Group Rights using drop-down menu.
    3. Provide "READ-ONLY" Everyone Rights using drop-down menu.
  8. Click APPLY
    test
  9. Scroll UP and Click on ADVANCED OPTIONS Tab.
  10. Under ADVANCED SHARE PERMISSIONS, select the following settings: test
    1. Under SHARE FOLDER OWNER, type MYMEDIA (or the name of the share)
    2. Type "nogroup" under SHARE FOLDER GROUP
    3. Provide READ/WRITE Access to "SHARE FOLDER GROUP RIGHTS"
    4. Provide READ/WRITE Access to "SHARE FOLDER EVERYONE RIGHTS"
  11. Click APPLY.
  12. Reboot your Router.
  13. Restart your Mvix MX-760HD/MX-780HD.
  14. You Should now be able to see a folder named "MYMEDIA" on your Mvix (TV) User Interface. Click on the folder and access/stream all media (video/audio/image) files from NASBOX to Mvix MYMEDIA Center.

(This setup can be replicated across other Network-attached Storage Devices to stream MYMEDIA files to your Mvix MX-760HD/MX-780HD MYMEDIA Center)
