How to connect to your Mvixbox WDN-2000 using ssh
Solution

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to use the Putty SSH client to connect to your Mvixbox WDN-2000 to perform maintenance tasks.

Required Software: Internet Explorer, Putty SSH Client

Purpose: To ensure that SSH is enabled, and use a ssh client to log in to the Mvixbox.

Checking to ensure SSH is enabled:

  1. Use your favorite web browser to bring up the web interface for your MvixBOX. (Currently Google Chrome is not recommended)
  2. If you do not know your IP address for your player: For Vista Users: Go to Start --> Right Click on Network, and Select Explore. XP Users, Can double click on Network Neighborhood.
  3. Right click on MVIXBOX, and select View Device Page.

  4. At the MvixBOX front page, login with your account.

  5. Double click the icon labeled Administrator.

  6. On the left column, under System Management, click on Service Management.

  7. On the following screen you will see what services are enabled. Under SSH ensure that the service is set to Enable. If it is set to Disable, select Enable and then click the Apply button.

You now have SSH enabled, and are ready to use a SSH client to connect to the Mvixbox..

Connecting to your Mvixbox using the Putty ssh client:

  1. If you have not done so already, download the Putty client, and save the exe to your desktop. This application does not need to be installed. Simply double clicking the putty.exe executeable will run the client.

  2. Double click the putty.exe executeable on your desktop.

  3. You will now see the client window as seen below. You will need to enter the IP address of your MvixBox, or the network name under Host Name (or IP Address). Ensure that Port is set to 22 and that the Connection type is set to SSH, as shown below.

  4. Next you will be prompted for the user name and password. Enter the username sysadmin, and the corresponding password. If you only get a connection error, double check your Host name or IP Address and go back to step 3.

  5. Upon a successfull login you will see the following prompt, at which point you can use typical linux commands to perform any administration you need to.
