This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to check if your MvixBox is using a GIGE connection, and how to troubleshoot if it is not, or the transfer speeds are slow.
Required Software: Internet Explorer
Purpose: To check the Mvixbox for GIGE connection, and troubleshoot slow connection speeds.
Checking for GIGE connection:
- Use your favorite web browser to bring up the web interface for your MvixBOX. (Currently Google Chrome is not recommended)
- If you do not know your IP address for your player: For Vista Users: Go to Start --> Right Click on Network, and Select Explore. XP Users, Can double click on Network Neighborhood.
- Right click on MVIXBOX, and select View Device Page.

- At the MvixBOX front page, login with your account.

- Double click the icon labeled Administrator.

-
On the left column, under System Management, click on System Information.

-
On the following screen you will see what the network interface is set to:

Here you will want to check the setting next to LAN, and it should say Wired Lan: 1Gbps as is illustrated above.
Troubleshooting the GIGE connection:
- If you have recently switched from a 10/100Mbps switch/router to a switch/router which has GIGE/Gbps connections, you will need to powercycle/reboot the unit. This is required to ensure the unit renegotiates it's connection at GIGE, not a 10/100 connection.
- Double check to ensure you are using a CAT5/CAT6 cable, that is not harmed/damaged in any way.
- Ensure the connection you are using to test is also connected at 1Gbps. If the machine you are using to test with is only on a 10/100Mbps connection the throughput will not be as good.
- Some routers will light up different for GIGE/100Mb connections. For instance, D-Link switches will light up green for GIGE connections on a port, while 100Mb connections light up yellow/amber.
