How do I setup Dynamic DNS (DDNS) on the MvixBOX WDN2000
Solution

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to setup and use the Dynamic DNS (DDNS) capability which is build into the MvixBOX WDN2000. Most Internet Service Providers provide users a DHCP network address when connecting to the internet. This DHCP address is a dynamic IP address, which changes often. While some people do not have a problem memorizing http:\\72.10.48.182 to browse a website, most use DNS

<Domain Name Services> to provide an easy to remember domain name, which points to that address. Dynamic DNS allows you to have an entry such as username.mvix.net, which points to the dynamic address of your home router. The MvixBox regularly checks in with the Mvix.Net DNS server, to update the dynamic dns with the latest IP Address. This ensures you can always remotely connect to your MvixBox to upload/download files, and/or to make you blog visible to the world.

Required Software: Internet Explorer, Firefox.

Purpose: This feature allows our users to set up a dynamic dns entry with the Mvix.Net DNS Server.

Setting up Dynamic DNS:

  1. Use your favorite web browser to bring up the web interface for your MvixBOX. (Currently Google Chrome is not recommended)
  2. If you do not know your IP address for your player: For Vista Users: Go to Start --> Right Click on Network, and Select Explore.
XP Users, Can double click on Network Neighborhood.
  3. Right click on MVIXBOX, and select View Device Page.

  4. At the MvixBOX front page, login with your SysAdmin account.

  5. Double click the icon labeled Administrator.

  6. Under Network Management select Setting up DDNS.

  7. Now you will be able to enter the name you would like to use.

  8. For our example I will use dravor.mvix.net. Once you have entered the name you would like to use, click on OK.

  9. You should now see a message that the Domain Setup is complete. If the name you chose,
is already in use, you will be asked to change your entry to one that is not in use.

  10. You will now see your domain name listed, and dynamic dns has been setup. If you are
forwarding the 8080 port for the MvixBOX from your router to the MvixBOX,
you will now be able to reach it via http://yourname.mvix.net:8080/.
