 How do I Defragment the Hard Drive inside Mvix and Improve Seek Times?
Solution

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how defrag the internal hard drive on your Mvix HD Media Centers.

Required Software: None. (Defrag Utility is included as a part of Windows Operating System)

Purpose: Over time as files are written to a hard drive, and as files are deleted files can be written across different areas of the drive. This leaves files written in a scattered pattern across the drive which can increase read times as the drive reads the different fragments of the file from across the drive. Defragging the drive with move around files so that they are less fragmented across the drive. Specially when using large media files, it is recommended to defragment your Hard Drive frequently, so as to reduce seek times and improve the performance of your Mvix Media Center.

Procedure: For Windows Vista Users:

  1. Connect your Mvix HD Media Center to your Windows-based PC via USB2.0 Port.
  2. On your PC, Click Start Button and Double Click My Computer.
  3. Select your Mvix drive, Right click Properties.
  4. After clicking on Properties you will see the following:
  5. From this window, select the Tools Tab, and then Select Defragment now.
  6. Now select Defragment now.
  7. Select the Mvix drive, and the click on Ok.
  8. The Defragmentation will now run. Upon completion you will be able to click on Ok.

 

Procedure: For WinXP Users:

  1. Connect your Mvix MX-760HD or MX-780HD to your Windows-based PC via USB2.0 Port.
  2. On your PC, Click Start Button and Double Click My Computer.
  3. Select your Mvix drive, Right Click and Select Properties. After selecting Properties you will see the following:
  4. Select Tools, and then elect Defragment Now.
  5. You will now see all your local drives listed. Identify the Mvix - Hard Drive in that list.
  6. Select your Mvix drive, and click on Analyze. Upon completion you can then choose to Defragment the drive.
  7. The Defragmentation will now run. After completion you can close the Disk Defragmentor.
