How do I setup WEP encryption on the Mvix MX-760HD and 780-HD?
Solution
This step by step guide provides detailed instructions for setting up wireless networking on your Mvix MX-760HD/ Mvix MX-780HD using WEP(R) encryption. We strongly recommend upgrading the Mvix Media Center firmware version to 2.0.3 for the MX-780HD, and 1.2.1 for the MX-760HD. These latest firmwares will install SSID scanning capabilities to the Mvix Media Center, which can simplify setup and eliminate common errors (e.g. spelling errors in manually entering SSID).

This guide covers the use of WEP(R) encryption technology, which is considered a less robust wireless security standard than WPA(R). (If you intend to use WPA(R) setup, please refer to this guide: How do I setup Wireless and WPA?)

NOTE: To setup the Mvix MX-760HD / Mvix MX-780HD for wireless access to the network, log in to the wireless router config (please refer your router's users manual for instructions) and note the router's gateway IP* (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), Netmask* (usually255.255.255.0) and IP addresses* for the other computers (eg. 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.11). Please also note the WEP(R) key for your router*. Once you have all of your networking information, follow these steps to setup your Mvix MX-760HD or Mvix MX-780HD:

* Check your router's manual for specific instructions

Troubleshooting:

If the wireless apply fails, please check your WEP(R) key as it does need to be correct in order to connect. Also ensure that you are indeed using WEP(R) and not WPA(R). In some cases certain routers and embedded products at time have problems getting AUTO/DHCP working. If that is the case please follow this knowledge base article to manually set your IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS Server, Wireless Troubleshooting.
