This guide provides step by step instructions on converting a Windows Vista Media Center DVR-MS recording for playback on Mvix Multimedia Centers. While Mvix Multimedia Centers cannot playback dvr-ms recordings (directly), these videos can be converted into a standard MPEG-2, which will play back on the Mvix Multimedia Centers. This article is meant for illustration and information purposes only.
NOTE - This process will not work for recordings from a Vista Media Center CableCard machine. Recordings via Cable Cards are DRM protected and these files cannot be altered.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE: DVR-MSTOOLBOX (Freeware)
DVRMSToolbox (DTb) is a set of tools that help you manipulate DVR-MS files created by Windows Media Center
PROCEDURE:
- Download and install the DVR-MS Toolbox Application
- Open DVR-MS Toolbox from Start -> All Programs -> DVRMSToolbox -> DVRMStoMpegGui
- When DVR-MS Toolbox opens you will see the following:

- Double click on the "Input File" text entry field, and navigate to the folder with your recordings. The standard location for recordings is c:\users\Public\Recorded TV.
- Double click the "Output File" text entry field, and navigate to the folder where you want your new MPEG file to be saved.
- Select the Process Priority for the utility to use. Below Normal is the Default Selection (although normal and high should allow for the conversion to run a bit faster).
- For profile, use the drop down list, and select "Convert DVR-MS file to MPEG with ffmpeg"
- The User Interface should now look something like this:

- Making certain that you have the profile selected, and the right file names in place, click run, and the conversion will start. The conversion screen follows:

- Upon conclusion of the conversion you will see a pop-up window asking if you want to save the log of the conversion. (This is totally up to you, if the conversion fails having the log file will help in concluding want went wrong).

- Copy the converted file (MPEG-2) to your Mvix Media Player and Enjoy....It really couldn't be easier.
