How do I setup a blog on the MvixBOX WDN2000?
Solution

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to setup and use the Blogs capability which is built into the MvixBOX WDN2000.

Required Software: Internet Explorer, Firefox.

Purpose: This feature allows our users to have their own blog, hosted on the MvixMOX. Blogs can be used to publish news, commentary, and allow friends and family to keep up to date.

Pre-requisite: In order for this functionality to work you will have to have setup the dynamic dns within your MvixMBOX, as well as forwarded the port 8080 within your firewall, to the IP of your MvixMBOX. This will allow internet requests for your blog, which are sent to your router, to be forwarded to the MvixMBOX.

Setting up your own blog:

  1. Use your favorite web browser to bring up the web interface for your MvixBOX. (Currently Google Chrome is not recommended)
  2. If you do not know your IP address for your player: For Vista Users: Go to Start --> Right Click on Network, and Select Explore. XP Users, Can double click on Network Neighborhood.
  3. Right click on MVIXBOX, and select View Device Page.

  4. At the MvixBOX front page, login with your SysAdmin account.

  5. Double click the icon labeled Blog.

  6. There will be no blogs listed if one has not been set up. Click on My Blog to start the setup process.

  7. Next you will be asked for information to create the blog. The Address Identifier will be used in the URL to access your blog, and is best to be identical to the name of your blog. You will also need to fill out the user name, email address, and password to use to access the blog remotely for edits. and blog updates. When done click OK.

  8. You will now see a popup to tell you that the blog has been created. Click OK.

  9. The blog may not be listed right away, so click on View Blog to view your blog.

  10. You can now see your blog. Click on the Admin link in the top right corner, which will take you to the administration page for your blog.

  11. You will now see the administration area of your blog. Here you can do many things to change the look of your blog. The Theme area will allow you to choose from multiple themes to change the look of your blog. You can also add multiple widgets, and add/remove things from your blog site. If you have multiple blogs, each blog will have it's own setup. Your blog will always be available at http://MvixMBOXIP/blog/blogname, replace MvixMBOXIP with the IP of the unit, and blogname with the name of the blog.

  12. In this example I have clicked on Post, and then Write to write a new blog entry.

  13. Once I have submitted my entry, it will now be listed under the Post section.

  14. Here I have clicked on the settings tab. I am changing the blog title and the description, and then clicking on Save. This section allows you to make any changes you would like to make to your blog.

  15. If you go back to the MvixMBOX page, in the blog section you will now see your blog listed.

  16. If you have forwarded the port 8080 from your browser, to your MvixMBOX, your blog should now be internet accessible via http://domainname/blog/blogname. In the example, the internal address would be http://192.168.1.58/blog/Dravor, and the external address would be http://dravor.mvix.net/blog/Dravor.
