Did You Know?

"DVD" was originally used as initials for the unofficial term "digital video disk." But in 1995, the DVD Consortium (now known as DVD Forum) announced that the letters officially stood for "digital versatile disc" (due to non-video applications like data).

The fact is the official DVD specification documents have never defined the term "DVD." As a result, the usage in the present day varies from "DVD", to "digital video disc" to "digital versatile disc", the latter being the most common.
